The following is a communication from Ron Foster addressed to his fellow Director and the BSSA Custodians, in relation to the NSSA ruling for classification of shooters from other shooting organisations by NSSA in the 12 gauge. Ron is making representation for fairness in the comparison of averages between the different skeet shooting organisations for UK shooters.

I had a telephone conversation with Carl Hensch this evening.

Here is the gist of the POTENTIAL rule changes affecting shooters (I stress POTENTIAL, because until ratified by the NSSA directors in a postal ballot, the change will not take place. IF it is ratified, then it should come into effect on or around April 15th 2008 - (in time for the Ironman).

Once a new (no classification in another association) shooter has shot 5 events (per gauge), they will have attained a class that they can use at all NSSA events. If they have an average with one (or more) other association(s), then the highest other average that the shooter has will be translated into the NSSA tables and is to be used until the shooter has shot 5 events. As far as I understand it, these rules only affect 12g, unless another association recognises and classifies the smaller gauges.
e.g. Shooter with 96.6 CPSA average (AA), will be A in 12g NSSA. Shooter with 93.9 CPSA average (A), will be B in 12g NSSA. Shooter with 93.8 CPSA average (B), will be B in 12g NSSA. Shooter with 89.7 CPSA average (B), will be D in 12g NSSA. This would be commensurate in Doubles.

Please remember that this is not gospel at this time. I (along with Charlie Lucas) will be waiting until we see the rule(s) as written down to be voted upon before we can be fully sure of their content. Even then, we must wait until the Directors have voted before we know whether the rules (as written) will have been accepted or not.

When the rule changes were announced for voting upon last year, Charlie and I both voted against the changes, we agreed in principal with what was being proposed but knew that it was not right as it stood at the time. I can only hope that the new rule(s) is/are somewhat better.

Ron Foster
