2009 BSSA Iron Man Report.
The BSSA Iron Man Championship was held at A614 Gun Club, Nottinghamshire over the bank holiday weekend of 12th and 13th April 2009. The weather conditions could not have been better with grey skies showing the black target just perfect, and no wind at all.
Day one produced just one 200 straight by the ever improving Andrew McNamara, with eight 199's and five 198's in chase of Andrews 200.
Day two was very tense, the atmosphere just as you would like to expect a championship of this nature to be.
The second day produced three 200's, Mickey Dore, Robert Jones and Vall Fraser which meant that Micky and Robert were in the clubhouse on 399's, leaving the door open for Andrew, although not by much, along with six 199's, two 198's and two 197's.
Andrew produced a very creditable 199 under pressure to secure his place in the 399's shoot off for the 2009 championship. Historically Iron Man shoot offs are conducted in full round of 25 clays, miss by round. The expectation was for a long drawn out display of skeet shooting at its best, no one was disappointed.
Vall Fraser reported that over the two days the One Hundred Straight Club recorded thirty one 100 straights!

Andrew missed low five in the third round and Micky went on to straight the third round and in doing so become the Iron Man Champion 2009, a very popular win with equally popular Andrew McNamara as Runner Up.
Robert Jones took AA1, with Simon Hill and Nick Marsden AA2 & AA3 respectively. Gary Cooke won A class after a shoot off with Vall Fraser placed A2 and James Perry A3.
DP Wilson was the B class winner with Junior Joe Jackson B2 and J Ellis B3. John Batchelor won C class with S Fulford C2 and Catherine Marsden C3.
Master Mathew Pegg was E1 at just eleven years of age, a bright skeet shooting future and great to see youngsters coming into the sport of clay target shooting!
In the categories, Catherine Marsden was Lady Champion, Vall Fraser was Veteran Champion and Joe Jackson Junior Champion with Simon Hill and Nick Marsden two man team champions.
The East (first day) and the West (second day) both have their own trophies and recorded winners. Andrew McNamara was the East Champion with the only 200 straight on day one, and Vallance Fraser the West Champion after a shoot off with the Dore and Robert Jones, Valls smile was a yard wide and absolutely priceless.
On behalf of the BSSA committee, I would like to convey The BSSA's sincere thanks to Reg Bates and all the staff at the A614 Gun Club for a job done just perfectly.
